A SPECIAL NOTE TO OUR VISITORS:
Thank you for your interest to include Big Bear Bed & Breakfast as part of your future Alaska adventure.
Due to COVID, family needs and age (83), I have closed my homestay B&B as of October 1, 2021. For the past 30 years I have devoted most of my time, money and energy to home & garden maintenance, business marketing and preparation and preservation of garden berries and fruits for the B&B breakfasts. In 1995 I retired after 30 years as a Home Ec. teacher. Now, I am retiring for the 2nd time.
Since 2006, I have operated the B&B only during the summer tourist season. We closed completely in 2020 prior to the availability of COVID vaccinations and out of necessity, family members moved into all the guest rooms. In order to find a use for the abundant harvest of berries and fruit that summer, I began selling jellies, jams, frozen & fresh raspberries and crabapples and baked goods using them at a local farmer’s market as “Big Bear B&B Backyard Garden”. This past summer I reopened the 3 bedrooms and living room on the second floor to guests who had COVID vaccinations. Several guests have purchased half pint jars of my jams and mailed them home bubble-wrapped in Flat Rate boxes. Early frost and snowfall, while most of the cherries, apples, crabapples and Aronia berries were still on the trees, have forced immediate harvesting. Now I am swamped with preserving and trying to prevent waste. Although the B&B website will be dropped on Jan.1, 2022, the sale of my products will be available by using the B&B phone number or email.
We enjoy providing our guests with a “taste” of Alaska with our food, surroundings, and “Old Fashioned Alaskan Hospitality”.
